Nine Wives is a garage rock/grunge and blues trio hailing from Berkeley, California. The band consists of members Erik Spencer (guitars, lead vocals), Will Douglas (bass, backup vocals), and Brian Whiteside (drums and percussion). Nine Wives plays a fusion of rock and roll, blues, and grunge. The trio has more than 20 years of combined experience performing music.
Nine Wives was formed from the remnants of The Lucky Devils, a Berkeley alternative rock trio originally created in 1998 and produced by Matt Kaufman (Son of Bezerkeley Records). In 2000 The Lucky Devils released their self titled album produced by Son of Bezerkeley.
While in The Lucky Devils, Douglas and Spencer performed mainly in the San Francisco bay area, playing regular shows at imusicast, Ashkenaz, and Cafe Eclectica, and Blakes on Telegraph. The members of The Lucky Devils went their separate ways in 2002, pursuing higher education at different universities in California.
Erik Spencer met drummer Brian Whiteside at UC Santa Cruz, and they found common ground with their mutual interest in the blues. Upon graduating from their universities, Spencer and Douglas reunited and recruited Whiteside to collaborate, forming Nine Wives.
Since then the band has been playing music and performing, mainly in Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Bay area. The band has drawn well at many Bay Area and South Bay venues including Mama Buzz cafe, Blakes on Telegraph (Berkeley), Becketts (Berkeley), the Stork Club (Oakland), The Attic (Santa Cruz), Giordano's (San Francisco) and others.
